A British theorist and designer, Holmes is the principal of New York based design firm Explanation Graphics. He began his career with Time magazine creating what was know as "explanation graphics" but as his expertise on the matter grew he began sharing his thoughts on the systematic representation of statistics eventually writing six books on information design.

SAUL WURMAN

A true father of information design, Wurman initiated his illustrious career by becoming a well-known name in both the architecture and graphic design fields. His accomplishments are innumerable but he has published over 80 titles and is most famous for his creation and chairmanship of the renowned TED conference. TED still holds a promenent place in the design world as a forum for design discussion and as a thinktank for innovative discourse in the theory and practice of visual communications.
EDWARD TUFTE
Born a native to Kansas City, MO, Tufte is well known for his learned theories on the implication of information graphics and for his continued involvement in passing along the rules of such theory to the designers of tomorrow. After receiving extensive schooling from several illustrious universities Tufte developed his expertise in the areas of information design, interface design, statistics and political economy, all subjects he would eventually teach after becoming a professor at one of his alma mater, Yale.

All three, although their stylistic personalities and the implication of their skills differs, have contributed greatly to the vast leaps that imformation graphics has made in recent years. Their exploration of technique and careful study of how people react to visual data coupled with a diligent outsourcing of ideas helped to initiate the explosion of good explanation design being created today.
