this american life...

so when im doing homework i usually just listen to repeat podcasts of This American Life, one my favorite talk radio shows on NPR (thats National Public Radio to those of you who ipod it all day)... if you've never given it a listen you really should, theyre funny, entertaining and you really cant get bored because each one is so different.
anyway... as i was listening to one last night, at about 2 in the morning—so you can guess what sort of mental hiatus i was in, a thought came to me about the portrayal of information. it
occurred to me that on the radio statistical information has to be given interest, relevance, and impact using purely sound. upon considering this, i realized what an asset we have been given in allowing our graphic solutions to be coupled with and accented by an accompanying audio track... not only can we appeal to an audience visually we can connect and reaffirm the point of our statics with something as individually emotional and influential as the potent sensation of sound.
now i just have to take the little thought and turn it into a aftereffects project.... much harder than just theorizing....

Isn't it amazing when something so common slaps you in the face with it's true significance? Working in the arts will do that to you. Of course, so will being up at 2 am...
