reading 4
so in updating my blog i read the latest reading... and it got me pondering the longevity of technology and the ever-changing landscape of the internet world.
how long are little flash animations going to hold the undivided interest of the average internet browser when interactive gaming and computer animation reality has made such leaps and bounds in recent years? in the future what will it take to get our complete attention?? will there come a point when the visual engagement of a site becomes more important and marketablethan the information being conveyed [ or has it already happened ?!?!? ] ? what will competition be like when grabbing the viewers eye is goal numero uno... will that ever come to pass? will we eventually morph into robots defect into autonomous mode when we really really really just want to find the right informatio—or will human nature continue to handicap us with the constant need to gravitate toward what is most visually stimulating? hmmmm...
interesting article though... im scared.

ok, so this is only slightly alot alot late... but here it is...
so when we looked at my aftereffects project is was in [ ...as it has been for quite some while now... ] a half-way state, one that showed the involved imagery i was working on, but not my entire concept. however, here's what my group had to say and it did help shape the final product... its finally done now btw!!!
MESSAGE
1 ] the message is relatively clear from what you can see of it. it is understood that the city represents and is an embodiment of economy/progress of a sort. however, without its counterpart [ what is now a tree ] its hard to understand why its growing or what the growth represents ultimately!
2 ] yes it is memorable! [ i am quite happy about this! ] the imagery is very cool and intriguing. leaves the viewer asking for more....
3 ] well maybe if it was more done it would be more compelling. however, as far as it is now, the buildings are cool so make the tree just as intricate and engaging. the type should be bold stark simple, direct. not too much fuss... powerful transitions with something to lead you through...
TECHNICAL
1 ] the visual language stems from the impact of the imagery so far. definitely dynamic and compelling... clarity needs work. may come with addition of other parts. it could be better by emphasizing the scale change? maybe making other parts come to life other than the lights...
2 ] transitions aren't really there. what was discussed seem to fit with the theme... following the question mark and the e icons through the text. think about transition from building/tree into text... maybe leaves blow across?
3 ] type and color aren't yet in place... examples seem appropriate. [ bold futura. black grey green... follows mood board ]
4 ] no sound yet. sound effects ideas seem good... nature sounds, city scape noise... then song? maybe no song?

10 bomb websites [ and 3 fav tree hugger sites ]
this was fun!!!
site 1 [ rednosestudio ]
one of my favorite sites of all time... mostly just because its beautiful and i love the work of this artist... HOWEVER... its also a really easily navigated site. simple. no extra things... just the necessities of the site. i think it has a beautiful architecture for his work, they really pair well together and mirror the eerie style. there are only four buckets and they are clear and straight-forward and there is very little to district from the purpose of the site... the work!

cool little clothing site... i think its visually really cool and the motion flash graphics are bomb. again only a few buckets makes this really easy to navigate through and its divided in a way that makes scrolling through many pages of clothes easy and clear and catagorical. there is also a section dedicated to the history and community of von dutch which is organized like a pin board with various photos, and scraps of paper, funky pins and its kitchiness is nice... but the type in this area SUCKS!
site 3 [ letitbleedbook ]
this is a really sweet sight that has to do with the acclaimed book let it bleed. its a rolling stones book so the photography and type and color palate completely supports the work and doesnt interfere with the artwork which is beautiful. there are only five buckets and the clarity and simplicity lends alot of austerity to the site, but the flash animation and modernity give it a little punchiness.
site 4 [ carbonica ] ° tree hugger site °
love this site! its so cute and well designed, embodies the naturalism and granola aspect of environmentalism and its visual treatment but its super clean and accessible. great little animations but the site is really quite simple. the icons make navigation so easy and returning to the main sites always and option. there is alot going on but divisions keep the sections clearly divided. love the personality of this little website and it relates visually to the nps site were working and also in content! best thing about this site is its overall ability to package its ideas with a cohesive visual identity...

excellent blog site...beautiful, whymsical, insightful, inspiring, humerous. my favorite thing about this site is the beautiful little flash annimation at the top- its a trip! links to some really nice stuff also... this lady has some nice work that is easily referenced even though her site is definitely blog style. categories inside of categories cuts down on clutter but makes coming up with what you want relatively simple non-the-less. cute music plays in the background and definitely helps set this quirky and imaginitive website above the rest...
site 5 [ vollawn ] ° tree hugger site °
this website is definitely green... and its the bees knees if you ask me! despite what you might actually read into the title this is actually a business, the poeples last name is just volunteer [ youll find information on that in the category—whats with the name ] i think the design is rudimentary but effective and really graceful in a way that combines the idea of structure and organics... kinda like lawn-scaping in fact! this home page harbors a hodge-podge of information but its layout is still crisp and clear, easy to navigate, and just looks simple. and ive found that simply looking simple is a good trick in making people think your site really is simple—pretty simple! :)

branch is one of those websites you visit every week just to see what new cool, cute, i-really-have-to-have-that, wow-i-cant-beleive-i-just-spent-$175 dollars-on-that, oh-well-it-was-really-cool stuff the editors of this neat little site have come up with. yes, im addicted. its just a nice simple design and cool name/emblem that drew me to it in the first place... but my obsession has just continued through two design changes and the addition of at least twelve exciting new categories of goods. there is ALOT on this page, visually, however its relatively simple to understand whats going on and there is a sort of yumminess of seeing clean cutouts of products. oh yeah- and its entirely self-sustainable designed products... which is just cool.

every time i visit this site i go... oooooohhhhh, ahhhhhh... in that very literal sense. this sight have a sort of clean lovely appeal of form. its making jewelry sexy. and it works. this site is one of the most simple ive ever seen but for its subject matter it couldn't be any more effective. there is light gray type at the top and that is literally the only textual information you need, unless you want more, in which case you click on a link that brings up a description, cost, purchase link etc... but until your done admiring the jewels you don't even have to be distracted by it! brilliant!
advice for jewelry addicts- don't visit this sight unless you have your visa and some really really good credit!

another sight of cool products and excellent navigation simplicity. this grided layout is organized and the eye can comfortably explore the veneer of the site. these isn't anything strongly pulling the eye, just choices on what to select first. one ur in a box it gets a bit more complicated but in terms of making distinguished clear buckets- this is where its at yo!
site 9 [ little paper planes ]
this site has more visual intrigue than the others but retains a sense of sophisticated grouping and clarity of organization. plenty of white space probably helps this but the way this sight groups its information and visual content gives the viewer plenty of time to rest and retain what information is being presented. plus i like yummy clean type...
site 10 [ lux paperie ]
cool fonts, textures, color palatte + cool products + cool ideas for using these products + simplicity of organization = a cute successful site. oh did i mention that i love paper. so, yes, admittedly—it wouldn't be hard to sell me... but this adorable little site hits a weak spot. i think the fact that they've intertwined a two-dimensional form that i love with the interactive quality of web design really has a comfortable result, one that invited a user to click on things and investigate further... like a wonderful paper makes a handler want to pick something up and turn it over, look inside...
so yes, websites! gotta love them—i do!
